Jazz Choir Scotland was founded in 2013 to let vocal jazz flourish. Here is Our Story through Concerts, Workshops and the Events that the Jazz Choir have been involved in.
March – Pollokshields Burgh Hall
Swing Into Spring brought the talents of the Jim Clelland Singers, Bruce Adams (trumpet, flugel horn), Eliot Murray (saxophone, guitar) and the Jim Clelland Trio together for an afternoon of unforgettable entertainment.
The Jim Clelland Singers set included, I Wish You Love and If I Fell In Love with you. The afternoon culminated with a rendition of What A Wonderful World by all the participants.
February – Kirkcaldy, Langtoun Jazz
A fund raiser concert for Langtoun Jazz, in the Auld Kirk in Kirkcaldy. The Strathclyde University Jazz Orchestra entertained the Fife crowd with some big band numbers, before accompanying The Jim Clelland Singers in the second half of the concert. Jazz harmony was the order of the day with an arrangement of Manhatten Transfer’s Tuxedo Junction, but the set also included the more upbeat Lullaby of Birdland.
January – The Record Factory – Bobby Deans Big Band – Return Appearance
A return appearance at The Record Factory in Glasgow. Once again the hosts were the Bobby Deans Big Band. An appreciative audience listened to a 6 song set of jazz classics including Moonglow and great Phil Mattson’s arrangement of the Riddle/Sinatra version of I’ve Got You Under my skin.
December – Buchanan Galleries
Saturday visitors to the Buchanan Galleries had an unexpected treat, jazz in the afternoon. Shoppers were entertained with a selection of Christmas songs with a jazz twist, as well as some jazz standards. The varied set included Cool Yule by Louis Armstrong and Moondance by Van Morrision.
The Jim Clelland Singers providing jazz harmony entertainment, during the interval of the Bobby Deans Big Band show, at the Record Factory, Byres Road Glasgow. It was great to perform to a packed room of Big Band fans. The afternoon set include some of our favourite songs; Do Nothin’ til You Hear From Me and Take Five. Positive feedback from the audience.

April – Cottiers Theatre
A Swing Out Sunday on a lazy sunny afternoon, with compere Lee Charles. The Jim Clelland Singers performed two sets in the second half, sandwiching an enjoyable and highly polished performance from Stephen Duffy.
In the first half Lynne O’Neill led the Jazz Harmony Choir, with a notable rendition of the Pink Panther! Followed by Lynne’s solo set. All performers were provided with excellent support … by the wonderful Jim Clelland Trio.
February – Cumbria Workshop
An afternoon workshop covering the basic techniques needed to sing jazz songs in an authentic jazz style … led by Lynne O’Neill and Jim Clelland. The two participating choirs were the Kirby Lonsdale Singers and Sing Joyfully. Participants learned to sing the harmonies of well-known jazz standards and learn technique necessary to turn their singing into an authentic and exciting jazz performance in the evening!
December – Adelaides
A fun-filled night for family, friends and jazz enthusiasts to relax and be entertained with lots of great jazz songs we all know and love! Featuring… the Jim Clelland Singers with the Jim Clelland Trio, the Jazz Hamony Choir with Choir Leader Lynne O’Neill and accompanist Frank McPhail.
Plus special guest vocalists Kenny Paterson and Lynne O’Neill.
June – Glasgow Jazz Festival
An afternoon concert it the City of Music Studio at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
The Jazz Choir Glasgow was joined by the members of the beginners jazz workshop, with the superb Jim Clelland Trio.
With special guest, jazz singer and saxophonist Elliot Murray.
June – Glasgow Jazz Festival Beginners Workshop
Attendees learned the basics of singing in a Jazz Choir … but also learned two well-known jazz songs from scratch! The beginners workshop then performed the two songs with the Jim Clelland Trio, Jazz Choir Glasgow. A great way for beginners to get started.
June – Vocal Jazz Workshop
A 2 day vocal jazz workshop for music professionals, music directors and singers. At the end of the workshop the attendees performed solo and choir pieces to an appreciative invited audience.
Led by Prof. Sheryl Monkelien from Mansfield University, Pennsylvania, USA.
April – Cottiers Theatre
An afternoon of Jazz and Contemporary Music from two vocal groups who are passionate about their own style of music.
Jazz Choir Glasgow performed hits from the 50’s and 60’s. The choir were led by Music Director Jim Clelland and his band, The Jim Clelland Trio. Guest vocal group Voicezone, from Ballarup just outside Copenhagen, were led by Music Director Anders Ørsager. With special guest vocalists Luca Manning and Lee Charles.
